Please Note:

Students qualifying for Free and Reduced Meal by annual application, registration as homeless, registration as migrant or by direct certification from the state (SNAP, TANF or FDPIR), do not need to add money to their account unless they wish to use it for ala carte purchases. Students who eat lunch and are not identified as Free and Reduced will receive charges on their account. This will cause a negative balance if funds are not added to the account.

For the 21-22 school year there will be no charges for any meals for children aged 1-18, due to special funding during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A student meal account is created for each student upon enrollment in Central School District 13J. This account follows the student from enrollment until graduation (or disenrollment). As per Oregon HB 3454 (2017) - School districts participating in NSLP or SBP, or both, must provide a student who requests a meal with a USDA reimbursable meal, regardless of whether the student owes money for previous meals or has money to pay for a meal. All meals provided by the Central School District meet the nutritional guidelines provided by the USDA and ODE’s Child Nutrition Department.

We at Central School District 13J denounce school lunch shaming of all students. No student shall be denied a meal due to lack of funds or a negative balance. No students will be publicly identified as having a negative balance. Communication regarding negative balances will be directed to the parents/guardians. We will provide a student their balance only if they inquire.

Students with a negative balance will not be allowed to make any a la carte purchases or an extra entrée purchase using their account until the account is brought to a positive balance. Parents may add money to the student’s account for the use of purchasing meals or ala carte items.

 Payments may be made:

  • online using your PowerSchools log in
  • If you do not have a PowerSchool log in, please contact your Student’s School Secretary
  • in any school office
  • in the school cafeteria during breakfast or lunch
  • at the district office at the front desk
  • at the Nutrition Department at the district office

If you have any questions regarding balances or payments for meals, please contact Lisa Miller at lmiller@central.k12.or.us or at 503-606-2474.

If your family/household’s circumstances change during the school year, you are welcome to re-apply with updated information at any time during the year. Changes that could affect your eligibility for free or reduced lunch include:

  • a decrease in family/household income
  • an increase in family/household size
  • your family/household experiences homelessness
  • a family/household member becomes unemployed
  • a family/household member begins to receive Food Stamps, TANF or FDPIR benefits

Forms are available in the main office of your child’s school or download the application at: https://district.ode.state.or.us/apps/frlapp/default.aspx

Negative Balance Notifications are sent out to parent/guardians by email (if you have a parental/guardian contact email in PowerSchool) or postal mail (if no email in PowerSchool) when student meal accounts have a negative balance of $5.00 or more. If you are not receiving this information regarding your student’s account, please contact your student’s school office to ensure the district has the correct email and postal address for parental contact. If the email address is correct and you are still not receiving the notices, please check your spam/junk folder for emails from lmiller@central.k12.or.us. Adding this address to your contacts will ensure you receive these emails in the future.

When a student graduates (or disenrolls), all negative balances owed must be settled and are the responsibility of the parent/guardian. If there is a positive balance after all district accounts are settled, the three available options are:

  • move the funds to a siblings account
  • ask for a refund
  • donate the funds to the district’s charitable Lunch Donation Fund

If no direction is given for funds left in district, the district will attempt contact to determine which of the three above listed options are preferred. If no contact can be made, after 6 months’ unclaimed funds will be considered a donation to the district’s charitable Lunch Donation Fund.

If you have any questions regarding balances or payments for meals, please contact Lisa Miller at lmiller@central.k12.or.us or at 503-606-2474.

If you have any additional questions regarding your student’s meal account, please contact the Nutrition Director at asinger@central.k12.or.us or 503-606-2348.
