Special Programs
The Student Services Department facilitates and supports school and district systems that locate, intervene, identify, and evaluate children ages 5 to 25 with suspected or established disabilities. Services are available at each school within the Central School District to serve students who have been identified as eligible for special education.
School and district programs provide a variety of learning experiences and support services designed to meet the wide range of physical, mental, social and emotional abilities.

Senate Bill 819 and what it means to your child experiencing disability
The Central School District would like you to know about a new law, Senate Bill 819, that affects some students experiencing disability. This law changes how schools may use “abbreviated school day programs.” An abbreviated school day is defined as any program in which a student receives instruction or educational services for fewer hours than the majority of other students in the same grade.

Special Programs mission statement
Working together with families and community partners, every student is engaged, supported, challenged, and prepared, as a whole child, with the skills and character to achieve and be successful in school, career, college, and community. Our mission is to work collaboratively to provide high-quality, equitable, inclusive instruction and services to engage all students in high levels of academic, social and emotional learning.
Students identified as eligible
Students identified as eligible for special education services must meet the following two requirements:
- Federal and state eligibility requirements as having a disability in at least one of twelve categories.
- Need specially designed instruction.
The Willamette Education Service District (WESD) provides educational services for eligible children birth to kindergarten. For children younger than kindergarten, please telephone WESD 503-540-4424.

Section 504
Section 504 is a civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Section 504 ensures that the child with a disability has equal access to an education, which may include accommodations and modifications.

School Health Services
The District facilitates vision screenings and coordinates the management of chronic health problems such as asthma, diabetes, and seizures. The district nurses are advocates for linking home, school, and the medical community to support student success.
